American History Ex

She says, "Your girl Mariah is a crazy bitch!"

He says, "Yeah, but not as crazy as YOU!"

Wow! Talked to my ex-boyfriend last night on the phone for over an hour...it was actually a decent conversation. We broke up 2 years ago (after I found out he was...uh...cheating on me), and I haven't seen him in over a year. The rage is gone. The hate is gone. The disgust is...still there...I think.

This is going to be hard for me...getting used to this slow paced environment.

Up in Chi-town at my old job, everything was GO-GO-GO!!! You had to be aggressive. You had to be fast. And you had to protect your ass. Here...it's the total opposite. Everyone runs at a snails pace. You have to watch what you say to people. Don't hurt anybody's feelings. Females aren't aggressive and outspoken down here. If you are, you're immediately percieved as a bitch.

Can I survive down here? I miss the hustle and bustle of the big city where everyone was rude and everything was fast. I miss Michigan Ave. traffic on a Friday night. I miss that old man who would always be at the Chicago Ave. Red Line stop tap dancing and singing as people waited for the train. I miss that crossing guard in Evanston who used to wave at me every morning. I miss going to Whole Foods on Saturday morning and walking next door to Peet's to get some coffee. I miss my friend Ayanna and how we'd go to Wicker Park ocassionally and get coffee at Local Grind and listen to jazz. I miss eating greens and cornbread at Dixie Kitchen. I miss that guy who would always be outside of the Dominick's on Chicago Ave. yelling some inaudible phrase trying to sell people newspapers. I miss being able to watch the news at 10pm and Jay Leno at 10:30pm!!!

Everyone was cool up in Chicago...so I'm having a bit of culture shock down here in the south. Are people just too nice down here? Or am I just too mean?

Player Clue of the Day:

She Says: "Hey, I called you last night around 9pm. Where were you?"

He Says: "Girl, I was knocked out! I didn't even hear the phone ring."

Please! We know you are connected to the world with your 4 phones in the house (including the bathroom), your cell phone, and your 2 way pager. We KNOW you heard that phone ring. We're not stupid. We know you had another babe over there.

Just thinking about a conversation with my buddy yesterday. The subject: Women's Intuition. I think it's a gift. He thought is was just plain bull. "How do woman always know?" he asked me. Simple. We just look for the signs. Fresh sheets on the bed when we come over (you just changed the funky sheets from the night before). The phone never rings when we're there (you turned the ringer off...duh). No caller id archived in your phone (you erased them so we couldn't be nosey). Our picture isn't in the same place it always is (you pulled it back out of your drawer when you hid it last night). There's girly food in your refrigerator (knowing that you never buy groceries such as fruit, and fat-free things, some hoochie stocked you up the night before). We call you up one evening and you answer, "Hey man, what's up?" (Since when did we become "men"? You got a babe sitting next to you.) Once again, we're not stupid. So why even play?

Can IT support be any more slack? I swear, I had to install my own palm software, my own Intellisync software, then had to get myself connected to the internet...on my own. To make matters worse, I now have a severely slow docking station with a laptop which I don't need, plus an unused pc tower sitting in the corner of my cube. Why do you need IT support when you can do these things on your own?

Sometimes I wonder if I made a mistake moving to another city for another job...but after talking to people from my old job, it's confirmed...I made the right decision.
